The Uzbek cyclist from Cogeas Mettler Look, Olga Zabelinskaya, showed good pace in the first stage of the Amgen Tour in California, which started on Thursday 16, with departure and arrival in the city of Ventura. Halfway through the race, Cogeas Mettler Look’s blond arrow launched a strong change of pace that became the escape of the day, for 25 long kilometers Olga was shown on Californian roads and on screens with an option to victory. In the end on a dramatic closing Olga was neutralized, although she kept at the pace of the peloton to arrive with the pursuer group to the finish line.
The first stage of 96.5 kilometers of route, with departure and arrival in the city of Ventura, was won by the Dutch and current world champion Anna van der Breggen of the Boels – Dolmans Cycling Team, with a time of 2:36:17. Elisa Balsamo del Valcar Cylance Cycling came second and in the third position entered the Cuban Arlenis Sierra of the Astana Womens Team. Olga Zabelinskaya finished in 16th place twenty seconds apart with respect to the time of the winner.
